Terms and Conditions of Sale

1 These terms
These terms govern every purchase from The Orders at theorders.alexahampton.com, which is operated by Alexa Hampton Inc., 400 East 59th Street, Apt 10CDE, New York, NY 10022 (“we”, “us”). By placing an order you accept them. Please read them; they are short, and they describe how a made-to-order purchase works, which differs in some respects from buying off a shelf.
Our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information, forms part of these terms.
2 The tablets
The Orders are five hand-cast plaster tablets, each documenting one of the classical orders of architecture — Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite — after Vignola, together with the complete set of five. Each measures approximately 18 inches wide by 24 inches high and is made to order by Hyde Park Mouldings of Long Island, New York.
Each tablet is cast and finished by hand. Slight variations in surface, tone and detail from one casting to the next are inherent in the craft and are part of what you are buying; they are not defects. Photographs on the site are representative of the design and finish, not of the individual piece you will receive.
Plaster is heavy and unforgiving of a fall. We recommend professional installation. We are not responsible for damage caused by inadequate fixing or installation.
3 Placing an order
Your order is an offer to buy. We accept it when we send you the order confirmation email, and that is when the contract between us is made. Until then we may decline an order for any reason — for example a pricing error on the site, a problem verifying payment, or a delivery address we cannot serve — and if we do, we will refund anything you have paid in full.
Your order number is your reference for everything that follows. Please quote it when you write to us.
4 Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars and are as shown at checkout on the day you order. Applicable sales tax is calculated and shown at checkout before you pay.
Payment is taken in full when you place the order, through our payment processor Stripe. We do not see or store your card details. By ordering you confirm that you are entitled to use the payment method you provide.
We may change prices on the site at any time, but a change will not affect an order we have already confirmed.
5 Made to order: lead times
Every tablet is cast for you after you order it. The manufacturer estimates one to four weeks from order to dispatch. This is a genuine estimate rather than a promise; casting and finishing plaster takes the time it takes, and the manufacturer will not hurry it.
Once your tablet leaves the manufacturer, it is in the hands of a third-party courier. The manufacturer chooses couriers with care but does not control their schedules, and so cannot vouch for how long delivery takes. Any delivery times given are the courier’s estimates, not the manufacturer’s.
6 Delivery
We will email you when your tablet is dispatched, with the carrier’s tracking details.
Each tablet is packed for the journey, but plaster can still be harmed by rough handling. Please inspect the package on arrival and, if there is visible damage, note it with the carrier before signing. If a tablet arrives damaged, write to us within five days of delivery with photographs of the tablet and the packaging and we will replace it or refund you in full, at your choice. Please keep the packaging until the matter is resolved.
Responsibility for the tablet passes to you when it is delivered to the address you gave us. If a delivery fails because the address was wrong or no one was available to receive it, any cost of redelivery is yours.
7 Cancellations, returns and refunds
Because each tablet is cast to your order, our returns terms are necessarily different from those of a shop that sells from stock.
Cancelling. You may cancel for a full refund at any time within 48 hours of placing your order, before casting begins. To cancel, write to us quoting your order number. After that period the tablet is in production and the order cannot be cancelled.
Returns. Made-to-order goods are not returnable for change of mind, and we ask you to consider your purchase carefully. We will always put things right if a tablet arrives damaged, is defective, or is not what you ordered: tell us within 14 days of delivery and we will collect it at our expense and replace it or refund you in full.
Refunds. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, through Stripe, and usually appear within five to ten business days depending on your bank.
Nothing in this section limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of your state.
8 Outside the continental United States
We sell through the site only to addresses in the continental United States — the forty-eight contiguous states and the District of Columbia. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii or the US territories, nor to addresses outside the United States. If you would like a tablet delivered anywhere else, please use the inquiry form and we will quote separately for crating and carriage. Import duties, taxes and customs formalities in the destination country are the buyer’s responsibility.
9 Trade and institutional buyers
Designers, architects, schools and institutions are welcome to inquire about quantity and terms. If you hold a resale or exemption certificate, tell us before ordering so that tax can be handled correctly.
10 Intellectual property
The designs of the tablets, and all text, photographs and other material on the site, belong to Alexa Hampton Inc. or are used under license. Buying a tablet gives you the tablet; it does not give you any right to reproduce the design, or to use our name, images or text, for any purpose. You may of course photograph your own tablet in its setting and share the picture.
11 The website
We try to keep the site accurate and available, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change what is offered, and how, at any time. Where the site links to other websites, we are not responsible for their content or their terms.
You agree not to interfere with the site, attempt to gain access to any part of it that is not intended for you, or use it in any way that is unlawful or that harms us or other customers.
12 Our responsibility to you
We will supply what you ordered, as described, with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we make no other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
Our liability to you in connection with an order is limited to the price you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — for example the cost of an installer’s visit, or damage to a wall — unless caused by our negligence. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Some states do not permit the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages; where that applies to you, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted.
13 Governing law
These terms and any purchase under them are governed by the law of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that we cannot resolve between us will be heard in the state or federal courts sitting in New York County, New York, and you agree to their jurisdiction.
14 General
These terms, your order confirmation and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us for your purchase. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If we do not enforce a term on one occasion, we may still enforce it later. You may not transfer your order to anyone else without our agreement. We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your order are the ones in force when you place it.
